“Art on Wheels” Collaborative Art Opportunity

It’s that time again . . . The Annual Art on Wheels Community Friend Raiser and Art Auction will be held on Saturday, September 23rd. Last year, many of us collaborated on a fun project, the brain child of Susan Bickford, and we’re doing it again this year.

How does it work, you ask? It’s so easy–just stop by Artascope at the Bickford Education Center and choose a piece from a photograph which Susan has enlarged and cut into 8″x8″ squares.

You can reproduce your square however you like and then turn it in to be reassembled with the other squares. The result is quite exciting to see. The final piece will be auctioned off at the September 23rd event. The deadline for the finished squares is Sept 19 (coming right up) so come pick yours soon!

You’re invited to join us at the studio this Saturday, September 9th from Noon-4pm to help us create our collaborative portrait. Last year, people used fabric, paint, paper, Encaustic wax, and watercolor. We look forward to seeing you this Saturday. It will be great fun creating and chatting with other artists.

“Art on Wheels” Community Celebration

We had a great time on last night at the “Art on Wheels” Community Celebration and Friend Raiser. With nearly 50 works of art submitted by local artists, live music, and the chance to see some amazing antique trucks up close and personal, the first year of “Art on Wheels was the perfect way to raise awareness about the Bickford Education Center, Bickford Truck Collection Museum and Pavilion, and the programs offered through Aratascope at bec, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that raises money for its experiential education programs by offering art classes and studio memberships in Yarmouth.

The theme was inspired by Erv Bickford’s beloved vintage truck and transportation collection. Artwork was shown at various venues throughout Yarmouth, including The Yarmouth History Center, 317 Main, Merrill Memorial Library, and online, before the final display and silent auction at last night’s event.

Plans are already underway for next year’s “Art on Wheels” celebration. If you missed last night’s gala, here is the video that was presented.

Artascope Interactive Art Expo at Yarmouth Clam Festival

It was wonderful to see so many creative people of all all ages stop by our Art Expo tent this weekend during the 2016 Yarmouth Clam Fest. Our teacher demos of metalsmithing, silk painting and Encaustic wax were well received, as well as our Make & Take projects which included watercolor cards, drilled seaglass key chains and pendants, gel printed cards, and wet felted soap. It was a hot weekend, but we’re glad people took the time to learn more about the 6-week Artist Series, One-Day Workshops, and other fun art events we offer at Artascope at bec.

Bickford Collection Truck Museum and Pavilion

Did you know Yarmouth has its very own antique truck museum? Erv Bickford’s beloved vintage truck and transportation collection was founded as a museum in 2013. You can view trucks and other vehicles outdoors at the Bickford Collection Truck Pavilion and Courtyard located at Railroad Square, just off Main Street, and see the much larger selection, along with memorabilia at the Bickford Collection Truck Museum at 38 Yarmouth Junction, just off Elm Street.

The Bickford Collection Truck Pavilion includes more than a dozen vehicles ranging from the pristine 1926 Maccar to a circa-1920 Buffalo Springfield steam roller that ran on steam. The vehicles are in an outdoor post and beam pavilion with an attached open interactive courtyard (allowing parental supervised experiential play) filled with trucks, including farm and construction equipment.

The Pavilion is open seasonally May to October, Thursday through Saturday from 12 pm to 4 pm.

The Bickford Collection Truck Museum showcases over 40 vehicles at nearby Yarmouth Junction. The museum is filled with memorabilia – and is a treat for antique truck buffs and neophytes alike.

Open by chance or by appointment.
