Art Supply Swap at Artascope on January 20th

Due to the expected freezing rain on Jan. 13th, we have postponed the Art Supply Swap to Saturday, January 20th. That gives you even more time to sort through your stash.

Do you have art/craft supplies gathering dust in your closet? We at Artascope sure do! Do you feel the time has come to let some of it go?

Artascope will be hosting an ART SUPPLY SWAP at 48 Railroad Square. Bring your new or gently used art supplies into the studio so they can find a home with another artist. And you might be inspired by what others bring in too.

Anything left over will be donated to various organizations.

“Art on Wheels” Collaborative Art Opportunity

It’s that time again . . . The Annual Art on Wheels Community Friend Raiser and Art Auction will be held on Saturday, September 23rd. Last year, many of us collaborated on a fun project, the brain child of Susan Bickford, and we’re doing it again this year.

How does it work, you ask? It’s so easy–just stop by Artascope at the Bickford Education Center and choose a piece from a photograph which Susan has enlarged and cut into 8″x8″ squares.

You can reproduce your square however you like and then turn it in to be reassembled with the other squares. The result is quite exciting to see. The final piece will be auctioned off at the September 23rd event. The deadline for the finished squares is Sept 19 (coming right up) so come pick yours soon!

You’re invited to join us at the studio this Saturday, September 9th from Noon-4pm to help us create our collaborative portrait. Last year, people used fabric, paint, paper, Encaustic wax, and watercolor. We look forward to seeing you this Saturday. It will be great fun creating and chatting with other artists.

Attend Our Free Art Expo During the 2017 Yarmouth Clam Festival

Come make art with us Friday, July 21st and Saturday, July 22nd at the Interactive Art Expo, brought to you free of charge by Artascope and the Bickford Education Center. Try your hand at gel printing, wire-wrapped seaglass key chains, wet felting, and beaded ornaments. All ages are invited to experience the uplifting and stress relieving effects of making art.

When you attend your favorite Clam Festival venues, be sure to take a quick walk down Main Street and visit our Art Expo at the Village Green Park next to the Bickford Truck Collection Pavilion. Artascope instructors will give demos on upcoming classes and workshops, including watercolor, metalsmithing, acrylic painting, and painting silk scarves.

We will have a family art table where you and the kids can sit down and get creative with Make & Take projects, such as wet felted soap, gel printed cards, a wire-wrapped seaglass key chain, and a beaded ornament.

The Gallery at Railroad Square will be open both days from 10am-4pm. Stop by to browse handmade fine jewelry, glass art, fiber art, paintings, cards, and other artisan gifts made by our members and local artists. It’s just around the corner from the Art Expo at 48 Railroad Square–follow the signs to the gallery, down past the outdoor Truck Collection Pavilion.

Interested in learning more about Artascope at bec? Volunteering at the Art Expo is a great way to do that. Volunteers do not need any prior experience. Just let us know ahead of time that you’re willing to take part in the fun. Please contact us at

Art on Wheels 2017 to be held September 23rd

With nearly 50 works of art submitted by local artists, live music, and the chance to see some amazing antique trucks up close and personal, last year’s “Art on Wheels” was the perfect way to raise awareness about the Bickford Education Center, Bickford Truck Collection Museum and Pavilion, and the programs offered through Aratascope at bec, a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization that raises money for its experiential education programs by offering art classes and studio memberships in Yarmouth.

The “Art on Wheels” theme is inspired by Erv Bickford’s beloved vintage truck and transportation collection. Submitted artwork will be shown at various venues throughout Yarmouth and online. Work will be shown from mid-August through September, culminating with a Gala and Auction on Saturday, September 23rd.
